About

Did you know the about page is one of the most viewed pages? It's because people want to see if they connect with you, your mission, and see what you prioritize.

The goal of your about page is to connect with your reader, so don't make the mistake of only talking about yourself. Sure, share your story, but do so in a way that positions your audience (customers, clients, fans, supporters, community) as the hero/heroin. By structuring it in this way you will increase trust and credibility.

If they didn't already, this page helps them know, like, and trust you more.

So how do you create your about page? Well, check out the content outline for prompts and ideas – and remember, start by identifying the sections you'll need.

Tell a story to connect with your readers

If you are looking for ideas, start thinking through the story framework, which is about transformation.

  1. Identity (who were you before you started doing what you’re doing now?)
  2. Struggle (what was going on in your life that prompted you to seek a change?)
  3. Discovery (what did you discover, who did you meet, what prompted the change?)
  4. Outcome (what happened? What outcome convinced you this was worth doing?)

What images do you want on the page?

You can use image or gallery modules, and then organize them in columns to add images to your story. Here are some types of images to give you some ideas.

  • Workstyle image (working in your studio/garden/shop)
  • Portrait
  • Product images
  • Before & After (something from your past)
  • Scenes (working with people, working in office etc…

Finally, will you include an email newsletter signup? You can use this page to share what they can expect being on your newsletter. The more personal and casual the writing the better. Just be yourself.

Remember to use headings to define each section

Quotes are also a great way to accent your writing and make something stand out. Select your text and click the quote icon inside the text module.

Make sure that someone can get a sense of your overall message, even if they are skimming the page.
